Too much missing from this edition. April 10, 2008 J. Scott (Co. Down United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like 'Frenchstudent' and 'Big bad wolf', I purchased this because of the Red Riding Hood cover, and was equally disappointed to find that this story wasn't included. In fact, this edition has only one thing going for it - namely, that it's so very cheap. But really, prospective purchasers should do themselves a favour and consider spending just a few more pounds - this will get them a *complete* edition of the stories.
confusing January 22, 2008 Big Bad Wolf Same here, Frenchstudent. The cover is confusing and a cheat. Riding Hood, Sleepng Beauty, Snow White are excluded, the most popular ones, which annoyed me too. Cinderella is in it though, under the name Ashputtel. Where should we able to buy the aforementioned tales in English then? I guess i'll post on Penguin Books' page.
Strange Omissions December 6, 2006 Mr. Christopher Abalain (Manchester, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Yes of course, this book is full of the Grimms' wonderous tales, but I found it peculiar that the illustration chosen for the front cover would be of Little Red Riding Hood, when she is not even one of the stories featured in the book. Neither that, nor Cinderella, cited on the introductory first page, are included, which I found strange. And slightly annoying, since I wanted to study the Red Riding Hood story!
The founder of all modern stories... November 16, 2000 10 out of 20 found this review helpful
Grimm's Fairy Tales are what we all know and have heard since we were young but probably did not know their origin. This book will delight you with stories you know from childhood and stories you may not yet have heard. This book is said to be responsible for the growth of modern German culture and when you read the stories and realize just how famous this book actually is, you will see why.
