Amazon.co.uk Review Cockney boys Tom, Soap, Eddie and Bacon are in a bind; they owe seedy criminal and porn king "Hatchet" Harry a sizeable amount of cash after Eddie loses half a million in a rigged game of poker. Hot on their tails is a thug named Big Chris who intends to send them all to the hospital if they don't come up with the cash in the allotted time. Add into the mix an incompetent set of ganja cultivators, two dimwitted robbers, a "madman" with an afro, and a ruthless band of drug dealers and you have an astonishing movie called Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Before the boys can blink, they are caught up in a labyrinth of double-crosses that lead to a multitude of dead bodies, copious amounts of drugs, and two antique rifles. Written and directed by talented newcomer Guy Ritchie, this is one of those movies that was destined to become an instant cult classic a la Reservoir Dogs. Although some comparisons were drawn between Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino, it would be unfair to discount the brilliant wit of the story and the innovative camerawork that the director brings to his debut feature. Not since The Krays has there been such an accurate depiction of the East End and its more colourful characters. Indicative of the social stratosphere in London, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a hilarious and at times touching account of friendships and loyalty. The director and his mates (who make up most of the cast) clearly are enjoying themselves here. This comes across in some shining performances, in particular from ex-footballer Vinnie Jones (Big Chris) and an over-the-top Vas Blackwood (as Rory Breaker), who very nearly steals the show. Full of quirky vernacular and clever tension-packed action sequences, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a triumph--a perfect blend of intelligence, humour and suspense. --Jeremy Storey

Dark humor, Guns and Cockney rhyming slang. July 23, 2008 T. Glover (watts,LA but now london) Lock, stock and 2 smoking barrels is a crime tale about a group of friends from London who happen to lose a game of poker, they end up in a lot of debt thus having to get out of it. The story takes many twists & turns and will also make you laugh as it has a very good use of wry & dark humor. The plot evolves around one man but there are many characters who share as if not more an important role. The star of the show in this movie is Vinnie Jones who acts brilliantly. I recomed 'Snatch' If you like this.
The Gangster Of Slang March 24, 2008 Charles Teen (England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best British gangster film of all-time. It is The Sex Pistols of the cinema and the West Ham Utd of movies. I can give it no higher praise or pay it a bigger compliment than saying it is up there with `Stop THe Ride I Want To Get Off` by Dave Courtney and `Till Death Us Do Part` by Garry Jackson. I have this classic crime thriller at the cinema, in video and DVD and every time I watch it - it gets better.
fun british crime caper January 1, 2008 mike clarke (zurich, switzerland) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
lock, stock and two smoking barrels is a fun british crime caper. With great writing, directing, acting, characthers, music, scenes, one liners and sets. It has brilliant gory action scenes, drugs, sex, guns, cockney accents, liverpudlian robbers, afros, traffic wardens, debt collectors, poker games and the best ending since the italian job. Its a perfect boozy lads friday night movie with breakthrough performances (vinnie jones, jason stathan) breakthrough directors and producers (guy ritchie and matthew vaughan) and in itself is a breakthrough film.
Gangster Classic December 28, 2007 The Critic 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I first saw this film at a cinema in Southend and I loved it. I thought this cant be Vinnie Jones the rubbish footballer - but it was - and he was brilliant as the Cockney Gangster - he aint done nothing since - but in this he was BRILLIANT. I would love a follow-up.
Special Film December 27, 2007 Steve Allen (London) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The best gangster film ever made. I have seen this in every format - DVD - Video - and with my ex-wife and the love of my life on the big screen at Southend. Vinnie Jones was brilliant as the dodgy Dave Courtney inspired gangster and proved he was a better actor then he ever was a footballer.
