Poor transfer, bad sound and grainy picture. October 3, 2008 Film Freak (London, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Would steer clear of this DVD release. Terrible picture and muffled sound makes for unpleasant viewing of this great film.
"How do you shave in there?" April 27, 2008 A Customer (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
'Charade' stars Audrey Hepburn as a woman about to divorce her husband when she finds out he's dead already and that he left behind a large amount of (lost) money - that a lot of people want, who are willing to do anything to get it. As the tag-line says, 'you can expect the unexpected when they play Charade'. Based on the other reviews (of the DVD with different packaging) I thought 'Charade' would be good, but perhaps not my style as I don't normally like thrillers (I like good romantic comedies with happy endings!) but it was so good, much better than I even thought it would be and worth every star. I was hooked to the story, sitting on the edge of my sofa as twist upon twist was revealed, my heart beating during the suspenseful ending. You never know what's going to happen next. I think Cary Grant, being twenty-five years older, was nervous about working with Audrey Hepburn but the two have real chemistry - they are able to laugh together and work together in a very natural way. 'Charade' is not Hepburn's usual innocent romantic comedy type role, and it was very interesting to see her as clever, independent Reggie. In a nutshell, the combination of the chemistry of the two leads and the clever plot make 'Charade' a must see for any fan of Audrey Hepburn or Cary Grant, thrillers or Hitchcock even, because it has a Hitchcock feel. There are no special features, but it's worth every penny even without.
