Well it's not THE best..... October 18, 2008 Mr. SRC Goodings (Milton Keynes UK) It's not the best digicam with mini-DVD functionality, but if you want the best, pay 500+. I found it did everything it claimed to and more than I expected. Picture quality was excellent, even freeze frame was good. Snap shots were only 800x600 so only good for on screen vieweing on a PC - but if you want a STILL camera, don't buy this is, it's only an added feature - but as a VIDEO camera, the lens quality is ACE and the zoom very stable. Low light operation is fantastic too. I never use DVD-R or DVD+R, but DVD+RW and I use the digital playback option to my DVD RECORDER and the quality is exceptional. Get a 4GB card and put that inside and you can record (lower quality) to that as well the DVD. I have had 5 Samsungs in my life, and I'd buy another one. Recommend this for mid-range operation.
Doesn't do what it says on the tin ! October 15, 2008 Arthur Dooley (N Wales) I had to give up with this little machine. Although it appeared to work fine, recording on to mini dvd's, there was the slight complication that the discs would not play back ! I believe that the problem may have been that there was a fault and the camcorder was not finalising discs, even though it indicated that it had. The discs just would not play back in any machine or computer. It would not even play back with the camera plugged into the AV channel even though it was playing back on the cam screen. Even my ancient analogue camcorder will play back through anything with an AV channel. Somebody told me that with the two recording options of video and VR then hardly anything plays a 'video' formatted mini dvd. If you think like I did that it's just a question of shooting away and wopping the disc in a DVD player or computer then think again. The discs have to be formatted and finalised and even then you may not be able to play the recording back. Mine had to go back to the Amazon supplier for a refund. I would recommend sticking to an old tape camcorder and getting a USB attachment which will convert analogue recordings which can be played and copied on your computer. Decent digital cameras can record reasonably well too. Can't recommend this little baby I'm afraid !
Does the job. June 21, 2008 Alan Partridge (Norwich, Europe) 66 out of 66 found this review helpful
When the camcorder arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how small and lightweight it is. It is extremely simple to use although the battery life is terrible - about an hour. The zoom is good but the image shakes a lot when you have it on maximum zoom. The lens cover doesn't come attached with a string so I lost that on the day I got it. The sound quality is fairly good but you can't really hear it if you play it back on the camcorder rather than a tv or laptop. The picture quality is good but filming in dark conditions doesn't produce a good picture. Overall, I'd recommend this camcorder because it's value for money, lightweight and produces good videos. You will have to have a collection of spare batteries with you or alternatively take the charger with you.
