Be careful
I spent hours trying to set this up - and I'm not computer illiterate. I never did get it to work correctly. For something so relatively expensive it should be more user friendly.
I accept that different equipment may respond better and not everyone will have my experience, and generally the software and the customer support are very good. But unless you want to spend lots of time setting it up, forget it.

I deem myself a technical person, though struggled at the beginning when using this. Having bought this a couple of months back, I really now feel more confident using the product to control the 7+ remotes that it has now replaced, since it now controls the: Panasonic TV, DVD recorder, AV Amp, Sky receiver, Technomate dish receiver & freeview box.
Has 2 main modes:
- Activities (you can have 6 of these), where one single selection from the main screen, multiple items can be switched on/off (in a macro format) to ensure the correct setup.
- Independent Control - whilst on an activity, to switch to another equipment kit and control it.
It does require a PC to install the software to settings, and to 'tweak' all the options that you want - again, takes a bit of time to get used to it, but very good. The software can program the remote using the database of the existing kit that you have identified that you own, and can also learn any additional keys directly from you remote, or even learn macros (a combination of key presses) - useful to program in to skip 3 mins on the DVD recorder to skip the ad-breaks.
I had problems programming the SVS recorder, though after a call with their Support team, they were able to indicate to me this was a known problem, and they uploaded the alteration to my online account (created at setup), which then resolved it. The support team were extremely helpful, so don't be shy and English, use them, as it saves a great deal of frustration.
The software has some additional nice touches, such as scrolling through photos when you dock/charge the remote, and allowing favourites to be setup on the screen (6 per page), with 75x44 jpg/bmp files - it is enough to impress anyone that comes around, and ensures that it is clear for anyone who uses it.
Only real negative, is that the Logitech is only compatible with the Squeezebox Classic, and not the more recent Squeezebox Duet (since this uses wi-fi rather than i/r for the control).

I have 5 devices and a TV. That's a lot of remotes.
One of these is a Samsung DVD Recorder connected to a Samsung LCD TV and I was hoping that at least I could use one Samsung remote but there was always at least one feature that I wanted to use missing or not working properly. I was thinking about replacing all these remotes with a universal one and I should have done it sooner!
After weighing up the reviews and the price I picked the Harmony One and eagerly got it home and tried setting it up. It took a while (over 1 hr) but it went smoothly enough even though 1 device was not in the database. So I had to use the learning options in the setup process to add some remote functions. Finally I had completed it and went to test it.
I was immediately impressed as it started my 'watch DVD' activity and I started playing with all the buttons. My heart sank as the pause button did not work. I was disappointed thinking I would have to call the hotline, read the forums, etc but that was not necessary. The configuration can be changed and I replaced the pause command with one learned from the original remote - everything works.
The first configuration is only a first pass. I have done 3 more 'passes' and have it perfectly setup. Even if your device is found you may want to re-assign the default mapping to the buttons.
In addition to the hard buttons on the remote the touch screen has enough space for 6 buttons per page and I've seen at least 7 pages but I don't know the physical limit.
You can program macros.
You can operate in device mode - where you select the device and only commands relevant to that device are available on the buttons.
You can operate in 'activity' mode which really means per defined activity you can select the commands from any device to map to the buttons. This is great. While watching a DVD I don't need my cable remote buttons. While watching cable I don't need to access DVD functions. It's like having the perfect remote for any occasion. On my friends' universals they were always having to change the device selection back and forth to get at the commands they wanted.
You can decide to add icons (to the LCD) to represent your favourite channels so you have one touch access to them. This is separated from the additional LCD buttons you can program so it stays logical and clutter free.
You can even upload pictures to be shown on the touch screen while the remote is charging.
The set up process and configuration is very detailed, professional and very, very well thought out. It really holds your hand and stops you being overwhelmed. Huge kudos to Logitech for that.
All in all this is a near perfect remote. I've not needed the other remotes since configuring this one and that's exactly what I wanted with no compromises. My in-laws have a TV with a dodgy remote so I programmed in their device and when I go there I use my remote :)
The only thing I can think of to complain about is the lack of the 4 coloured/teletext buttons. These have to be assigned to existing buttons or added to the LCD (I used LCD buttons because there aren't 4 convenient hard buttons to use).

This is probably the most pleasing piece of technology I have ever bought and used. I've been messing around with AV gear for quite a long time and, as a result, I am always cynical about how easy things are to set up.
I bought this to get rid of four other remotes: Samsung 40" LCD TV, Yamaha DPAX759SE AV Receiver, Cambridge Audio Azur 540D DVD player and Thompson Sky+ HD PVR.
Firstly, the remote is beautifully designed and feels comfortable and useable in your hand. It's light, bright and sleeps and wakes according to movement or a lack thereof, thus preserving the battery.
I have never owned a universal remote before and expected setting it up to be a long, tedious nightmare - fraught with trial and error (probably mostly error). Not so with this. You load the software onto your computer (I'm using a new iMac, so no Mac 'issues'). You then select the different components of your system from a mind-bogglingly large list of possibilities - needless to say you are unlikely to own anything that's not on the list. The system them confirms that it has details of all your gear and you move onto the next step.
The next step involves setting up your 'Activities', for example: "Watch TV", or "Listen to Music". There are a few presets for this, or you can set up your own entirely from scratch.
Each activity is set up via a simple quiz system which asks you questions about your system that you will definitely already know the answer to, because you used this information every time you picked up multiple remotes previously, to watch TV etc. So it will ask you a question like "When watching TV, do you control the volume with your TV or with your AV receiver". Simple.
Having chosen your activities, you then update your remote control which takes a couple of minutes, and that's it. The screen on the remote then runs you through a short tutorial which teaches you the basics of using the touch screen commands and what to do if something doesn't work as you expect it to.
And then, and it was at this point that every penny became worthwhile, it just worked. It did EXACTLY what it is supposed to, and this was straight out of the box with no tweaking the default settings.
I shortly discovered that the volume control on my AV receiver wasn't working so I pressed the Help button on the remote and it fixed it. God knows how, but it did. I then couldn't find a button on the remote that the Harmony had assigned to be the "Back up" button on my Sky remote. So I plugged it back into my computer and assigned it myself in about 30 seconds.
I then went to www.iconharmony.com where you can download the channel icons for all your favourite channels, like the purple E4 logo etc. You then assign these to Sky channel numbers using the Harmony Software and voila - you have all your favourite channels, (in groups of six per page) displayed in glorious techinicolour on the touch screen of your remote. You can even decide whether or not to have these automatically displayed when you are using the "Watch TV" activity.
Having juggled 4 bulky remote controls for the last 2 years, this is a serious breath of fresh air and an absolute MUST for any gadget freak. And, possibly most importantly, it's an impressive little gadget to have on your coffee table for when your friends drop in...
If I had known just how well it does what it's supposed to do, I would have paid double what I did for it.
Go and buy one. Now.

Brought a while back now (had an email from Amazon with 20% weekend or something like that and just couldnt resist - been after one of these for ages!)
Came packaged in the trademark Logitech futuristic packaging and really looked the part - initial set up is swift, easy and very self explanitory. For people saying the installation is complicated - its only as complicated as your set up. The step-by-step guide makes everything so simple, just fill in all the details about what components you have and how they are connected, and the remote does everything for you.
One thing to note is that if the equipment you want to control isn't in the same room as your computer you may find yourself running back and forth to re connect the remote and make any adjustments, however this can be easily solved with eaither a USB extension, or just run the installation off of a laptop (the softwares requirements are very low).
Works perfectly switching between PS3 and my PC's video and audio link (HDMI switcher and Logitech Z5500) at the push of a single button, as well as full control over my PC's Media Center, TV Tuner, and full DVD features. Shame about the inability to connect to the playstations bluetooth however I rarely have the need for this as my PC handles my video / movie viewing and my PS3 is only used for gaming.
The remote is wonderfully made, and the backlit buttons make it a delight to use. It's a bit on the weighty side, but nothing that noticeable, and for some reason crashes on a macro I made where it waits for 10 seconds, and then switches out the lights (custom designed to allow me to walk out of the room still with the lights on - damn these remotes make you lazy!). However it seems to just hang on the delay and not turn the lights out, the only way to 'restore' use of the remote is to remove the battery and put it back in - strange... However not a feautre I really need and for everything else it's fast, easy and intuitive.
