4 out of 5 stars Well thoughtout game shame about the playability   July 25, 2008
Alan
Speaking as a veteran player (Battlefield series and CoD series) I would definitely say buy the game but don't expect everything to work the way you would expect it to. By the way I'm talking about the online game play. Singleplayer has little to offer as far as I am concerned. Visit the BadCompany Web site and check out the forums you will be able to see all the niggles the game has. Very frustrating to play the game at times. That said when I first started playing computer games a white ball was being batted from one side of the TV screen to the other (Binatone). So hey don't lets complain too much! Go ahead and buy it - it's great really. As many have said before me, if you could combine this game with the CoD4 game engine then that would be a great game .

5 out of 5 stars great game   July 13, 2008

just to get this straight i also own cod4 and love it but but i think this game online rivals it and comes up to the same standards. so offline is quite short and a bit tedious but online is immense

5 out of 5 stars Best FPS I've played   July 12, 2008
M. Seaward (UK)
What can I say that hasn't been said already? The graphics are awesome (not as polished as one would've hoped) the maps are hhuuggeee and varied. The games are long and allow for team/squad work. Each class is balanced very well (frequently I can change classes during games as each class is good).

There are loads of awards/medals/trophies to be earned. Unlike other FPSs (COD4) the makers don't favor one console over another. Whilst lag is a growing problem, EA/DICE seem to take on board everyone's suggestions.

The ability to check your status on a PC is a great and...the ability to take screenshots whilst playing MP is another awesome feature. There are some great updates on the way which will further BFBCs dominance over other FPS.

The best part about the game (I feel) is the sound. The sound quality is awesome!!!! No longer will I judge a game by its graphics but by its sounds!!!!!!!!!

Just buy it...don't hesitate

4 out of 5 stars Regroup at the red smoke.......   July 9, 2008

The Battlefield series has enjoyed massive success as a multiplayer PC title, but aside from a 360 port of Battlefield 2, consoles haven't experienced the franchise.
Bad Company has been developed exclusively for consoles with a single player campaign unrivalled in the series history.
It focuses on a group of soldiers fighting in a fictional Eastern Bloc country. They hear rumours of a hidden gold stash; and that's it really. The story is told by short, interactive cut-scenes, which are solidly done and work better than most efforts (Haze!!!).
Your squad aren't the typical macho cliches either, and you may actually grow to like them before the campaign is over. They also have personal reasons for wanting the loot, which is fairly refreshing for an FPS.

The campaign itself is short and for the most part, sweet. Levels are absolutely huge. However, every area has red sections; `enemy territory', that cannot be entered. This always leaves a fairly linear path to follow. Objectives are also very similar, and require little more than travelling from one point to another.
Thankfully, there are various types of vehicles to travel in, and the transition is always seamless. Vehicles aren't forced upon the player either, instead providing an option to travel the maps. There is a forced helicopter mission later on, which can frustrate immensely.

Dices new `Frostbite' engine provides visuals that range from stunningly attractive to decidedly average. The open spaces look realistic enough, but most indoor environments are empty and lack much detail. A golf course provides some welcome variety, but for the most part, Deja vu persists. Identical groups of buildings are encountered throughout. Enemy animation is another low point.
The level of destruction is Bad Company's unique feature. Initially its amazing, blowing holes in buildings and destroying fences previously were blocking the path. But cheap, messy thrills quickly feel shallow. Anything red explodes, which feels basic. Rocket launchers and air strikes are available, but there is still far too much reliance on red barrels to create devastation, and a formula quickly develops to overcome every set piece. The destruction can also be quite inconsistent. Some buildings collapse after slight gunfire yet others wont even be marked after firing a rocket at it.

Bad Company is a better shooter than almost everything else on PS3.
Obviously excluding The Orange Box and the undisputed champion, Call of Duty 4.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic FPS   July 7, 2008
N. Wilkins (Cornwall, England)
Like the other reviewer, I couldn't get into FPS's until I bought this game. The game is outstanding, the graphics and sound is also very good. I like the story of 'Bad Company' as it develops well throughout the game and the characters can be funny at times as well! To be honest i'm really rubbish at the other First Person Shooters and this game falls into my boundaries quite well. Just buy the game!!! 10/10
